Deciding to be active can bring you many benefits, from better psychology to better quality sleep and higher self-esteem. But once you’ve decided to start exercising, things can get a little tricky. You might not know where to start, and you might feel like throwing in the towel when you feel things aren’t going as planned. Here are fitness tips for beginners to help you overcome these obstacles;
1- Be Clear About Your Goals
First, answer the “Why” and “How” questions; you can even write them down. Why do you include sport in your life? What do you think will be different when you do sport regularly? How will you incorporate sport into your lifestyle? Once you realize and answer these questions, it will be easier for you to take the first step.
2- Try starting with three 30-minute workouts per week
If you are just starting a training program, instead of setting yourself an intense goal, try starting with three days a week and schedule these three days as consistently as you would a doctor’s appointment. After the fourth week, you can increase the number of workouts every two weeks.
3- Prioritise Consistency Over Intensity
It is much better to train three times a week for 45 minutes at a moderate intensity than six times a week for two hours at a high intensity. Because the latter is not sustainable and can cause you to burn out in a few weeks.
4- Find Friends to Support the Effort
The first step to start exercising is motivation, but the most important thing is to make it a habit. If you have friends, family members, and coworkers you can exercise with, this can help you keep up the habit.
5- Do the Workouts You Really Love
Find a workout you like. Most of fitness clubs are very rich in this respect. You will be happy to do a workout you like in a gym where you can do different sports activities such as fitness, pool, kickboxing, pilates, zumba, yoga, and spinning. The most important rule of consistency is to enjoy what you do.
6-Start Slow and Take Breaks to Prevent Injuries
Start slowly, set realistic goals, be kind to your body, and take breaks as needed. If you are not honest with yourself about your fitness level and push yourself too hard, you risk injury. So set realistic goals and don’t go beyond them.
7-Accept that setbacks are possible
Be patient with yourself, you may experience some setbacks: not every gym session will be perfect. The most basic rule is to be persistent and keep moving forward.
8- Do not skip the warm-up and cool-down movements
Warming up before starting a training routine is very important to get the body ready to move without injury. Take time to stretch after exercising and don’t skip rest days
9 – Master the Basic Movements
Some beginners tend to skip the basics and stick to cool and trendy exercises. But don’t overwhelm your body with complicated exercises, master the basics first. Even basic movements like squats, rows, lunges, and chest presses take time to master, so opt for a progressive basic exercise program. 10- Don’t Compare Yourself to Others
Be open to mistakes and keep trying. You will see that you will get better with every workout. Remember, the goal is not perfection! Progress, so don’t compare yourself to others.
11- Accept that you will not get immediate results
Sometimes beginners expect that long-term results will happen quickly. But you have to be patient, look at this journey as a big picture, and make exercise part of a healthy lifestyle routine.
12- Eliminate Excuses
It’s easy to make excuses, especially when you’re trying to introduce a new habit into your life. So pack your gym clothes and fitness bag the night before. If you are going to a group class or working with a personal trainer, schedule it at the beginning of the week, make appointments if necessary, and put it on your calendar. Also, making a healthy meal plan for the week will help you add healthy eating habits on top of your workout routine.
